Swedish deep tech startups raise €6 million to accelerate the future of computing
Two Swedish ESA BIC deep-tech companies are addressing a challenge that’s becoming increasingly critical as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing continue to scale: the efficient movement of data.
Solinide Photonics, a spin-out from Chalmers University of Technology, has raised €4 million in seed funding to accelerate the commercialisation of its photonic interconnect technology. Its patented microcomb technology integrates the functionality of multiple lasers onto a single photonic chip, generating multiple wavelengths that can carry data simultaneously through optical fibre. This could help reduce energy consumption, physical footprint and complexity in AI data centres and other data-intensive computing environments.
Meanwhile, Gothenburg-based InfiniNode Technologies, another Chalmers spin-out, has secured €2 million in investor funding and grants. The company develops semiconductor IP designed to enable faster, more scalable and energy-efficient data movement inside advanced System-on-Chip architectures. Its technology targets next-generation AI, RISC-V, high-performance computing and chiplet-based systems.
Together, the two companies illustrate an important shift in the evolution of computing. As AI models and applications become increasingly demanding, performance is no longer determined solely by processing power. The ability to move data efficiently between processors, accelerators, memory and systems is becoming a fundamental technology challenge.The developments also highlight the strength of the Nordic deep-tech ecosystem, where advanced research from institutions such as Chalmers University of Technology is being translated into technologies with global commercial potential.
For Europe, strengthening this connection between research, deep tech, capital and commercialisation will be essential for developing competitive and energy-efficient technologies for the next generation of computing.
